“Bubba’s best buddy is Bingo the bear…”  Walking into the kindergarten room, you hear voices belting out the words to the latest alphabet song.  Mouths pop as young scholars work to perfect each letter’s sound.

Starting their educational journey, kindergarteners eagerly await each day’s newest challenges and adventures.  With plans in store for the upcoming year, students will tackle life experiences and take their first step towards a future.

As a part of kindergarten curriculum, students engage in a unit over community helpers.  The unit presents the aspects of certain jobs, and the   children learn how a typical day in the lives of MODot employees, doctors, and veterinarians play out.

Another big event on the kindergarten calendar is Grandparent’s Day.  Students prepared cards and songs that they presented to their grandparents upon their arrival at the classroom.  They were also asked questions about their grandparents.  When asked how old Grandma was, one kindergarten student answered without a moment’s hesitation, “1800!”  A total of 588 grandparents ate lunch and joined their grandchildren for recess.

Kindergarten is booming with countless activities, and many memories lie ahead.  Kindergarten teacher Mary Ann Earls reveals, “Kindergarten is off to a great start this school year!  Our class sizes are lower somewhat than last year, so it is a little easier to attend to each student’s individual learning needs.”
