Bears Battle Bobcats
On Friday, October 2nd, the Willow Springs Bears played at home field taking on the Thayer Bobcats. The Bears, having not lost a home game yet, wanted to continue this streak and score another win.
The Bears received the ball on the opening play, but the Bobcats caused a questionable fumble and scored to put seven points up on the board. On their next drive, the Bears drove the ball down the field only to be stopped by their own penalties and were forced to give the ball up on an unsuccessful fourth down attempt. The Bobcats were also able to drive the ball and scored on a 17-yard carry by C. Carey, making the score 14-nothing Bobcats at the end of the first quarter.
Not letting their heads get down, the Bears were the first to score in the second quarter off a 23-yard pass from Cole Johnson to Clint Harper. With a successful two point conversion pass from Johnson to Chris Miller, the Bears put 8 points up on the board. The Bobcats continued to have a successful offensive drive and scored with a 45-yard run by J. Huckabee. The Bears answered with another touchdown of their own. Another successful two-point conversion pass was made, this time from Travis Wake to Brandon Pitts. The Bobcats, going for another score before half time, threw a long pass only to be picked off by Harper which would run out the clock. The Bears went into the half with what seemed to be the momentum but were still down 21-16 Bobcats.
The first to score in the second half would be the Bobcats with a long 55-yard run by Carey. The Bears answered with a long run of their own when Wake ran the ball 45-yards into the end zone. The Bears did not get the two point conversion this time, only adding six on the board to make the score 28-22 Bobcats. The Bobcats continued to show great offense and scored two unanswered touchdowns by Huckabee, finishing off the third quarter and the Bears’ momentum. The score was 43-22 Bobcats at the end of the third quarter.
The Bobcats scored two more touchdowns by E. Leisenring to finish the game. The final Score was Willow Springs Bears-22, Thayer Bobcats-57. The small errors and penalties added up to cost the Bears the game.
