Cute in their skirts and waving their poms poms around, you’ll see our high school cheerleaders on the side-line at every game.  Seems pretty easy what they do right?   Well, I don’t know how big of a smile I could pull off that would win  a once in a lifetime trip like they did!

Over the summer the cheerleaders had try-outs for an organization called All-American Tryout.  Two instructors came to our school and taught the girls the material they would need to know for their own individual tryout. Nation-wide, over 15,000 girls competed in the All-American Tryout, but only 750 were chosen. 

Four of those girls come directly from our school!  Senior Eryn Alcorn, Junior Melissa Hall, Sophomore Rea Wheat, and Freshman Whitney Clinton were the lucky cheerleaders.  Not only did these girls do a tremendous job, but nowhere in the history of cheerleading at Willow has a girl from each grade been chosen. 

With the pressure of the tryouts behind them and being selected as some of the top cheerleaders, our girls get the amazing chance to travel.  Christmas break holds anticipating dates for them all.  On December 28-January 2, they will be traveling to Florida to perform New Year’s Day during half time at the Capital One Bowl on national television. 

“I’m really excited to be going with  four girls that I love spending time with.  We’ve worked really hard to earn our spots.” replied Eryn Alcorn. 

They will get to go to Disneyland and have dress rehearsals with the other girls that got selected as well.

Bake sales and local businesses have been the cheerleaders’ way of paying for the trip.  The girls have worked so hard it just seems practical that they should get to go.  Hard work and dedication has paid off in the end for our Willow Springs cheerleaders. 

“I’m so proud of the girls.  So many tried out and our girls were among the few that were chosen,” replied Mrs. Grogan, the cheerleaders sponsor.

  Although they may look cute, there’s a lot of passion and assertive energy behind the Willow Springs cheerleaders!
