Quick Drop in Attendance or Slow Drop in Grades
“It really hit us hard, but we’ve finally leveled out,” said Mr. Pietroburgo, the new Middle School principal. Over the past few weeks, the Middle School has been missing many faces. Many students along with teachers have been out with aching stomachs and runny noses.
On an average day in the Middle School, attendance is anywhere from 94 to 97%. The percentage has dropped rapidly due to so many ilnesses. On Friday, October 9, the percentage was at 89% with Monday staying the same. Tuesday hit with the worst percentage drop all year with only 88% attendance.
With all the students being out, it makes it very hard on the teachers. Eighth grade teacher Mrs. Draper stated, “Grading make-up work is a nightmare!” Due to all the absences, it is hard for the teachers to move on to new subjects. So many students are busy trying to make up their absent work and are missing the information that is curently being taught.
The attendance is slowly increasing once again. Students and teachers alike are beginning to catch up, but it will take some time.
