1st Quarter Reminiscing
Now that second quarter is well underway, students have a nice clean start. With the first quarter of school over and only two more to go, high expectations are set for the following quarters to come.
First quarter was such an exciting time for the WSHS staff and students. With summer break over, it was time for long hours of teaching and studying to begin. “I feel the first quarter went very well! Students settled in their classes soon after the beginning of school, and worked very hard to be successful,” replied Principal Mrs. James.
Overall, the attendance in high school was outstanding, meeting the school’s goal of 95%. Students seemed a lot more concerned about their education than last year and have started to buckle down and get their homework done.
As the first quarter came to an end, the high school teachers hosted a Parent Teacher Conference Night in the Grimes Auditorium for the parents to pick up their child’s grade card. This gave the teachers and the parents a chance to become better acquainted and to discuss how the student/child was doing in class. With an excellent turn out, the conference night was a success with 67% of high school parents participating.
So, with the first quarter over and second quarter in full swing, students should continue to keep up the hard work. One thing that the HS Principal Mrs. James would like to see is more students down in the library after school taking advantage of having homework lab. This gives the students a chance to get help with their work and get their homework done so they don’t have to take it home.
Mrs. James has set a goal for second quarter, “I would like to challenge all students to be attentive in class, diligent about completing and turning in homework, and concerned about maintaining good attendance.” With this in mind, hopefully students will continue on with what they’re doing and adjust to changes that will help them improve their education.
