Bears Fall in First Round of Playoffs
On Wednesday, November 4th, the Bears would head to Fair Grove to take on the Eagles in the first round of playoffs. This is the first time in six years that the Bears made it to the playoffs, and they hoped to make the most of it.
The Bears won the toss and would receive the ball first. The Bears would do a good job of moving the ball against the Eagles but were unable to punch it in on their first drive. The Eagles were also able to run the ball down the field. With a final push, the Eagles were able to run it in from four yards out. With an extra point, the Bears were down early by seven. The Bears were still able to move the ball but were stopped short due to penalties that moved them back valuable yards. The Eagles had the ball again, but this time the Bears would give no ground, making some good tackles for losses. The Bears would have the ball but would run into the same problem due to turnovers. At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were up by seven.
In the second quarter, both teams were able to move the ball, but again, the Eagles were to be the ones to push it in. The Eagles were now up by 14, but the Bears defense came up with some good stops and held them until halftime. At the half, the score was Bears-0, Eagles-14.
In the second half, the Eagles continued to run the ball against the Bears and were successful with two long runs by A. Hackett and C. Schaffitzel. The Bears, wanting to put up some points of their own, scored from 22-yards out off a pass from Cole Johnson to Clint Harper. The Bears went for two, but it was unsuccessful and ended up with only six on the board. At the end of the third quarter, the score was Bears-6, Eagles-28.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles continued to extend their lead with two more touchdowns. The Bears showed their pride when they scored six more at the end of the game with a six yard run by Allen Brasier. Then the final horn announced the end of the game and the end the Bears’ season.
