Welcoming Aboard
“I pledge myself to uphold the high purposes of the National Honors Society…” repeated the new inductees on Tuesday, November 3, in Grimes Auditorium.
The ceremony to honor the new members being inducted into the NHS organization began at 7 p.m. With the old members in charge of the night, President BreAnna Newman welcomed everyone who was in attendance for coming to be a part of the students’ great accomplishment.
In order for the new members to even be considered into joining this academic organization, students had to maintain a 3.7 or higher grade point average and write an essay. There were a number of juniors who qualified, but the essays determined who in fact made it in.
With great honor, the junior inductees were: Casey Hall, Melissa Hall, Jared Lovan, and Stephanie Williams. Also, the senior inductees consisted of: Eryn Alcorn, Jessica Girdler, and Elizabeth Appleman.
Together, the residing members and inductees sat listened to Dr. Shaw give a speech of encouragement and success for them in their future. As Dr. Shaw’s speech came to an end, all the members went up on the stage, and the ceremony officially began.
The five candles that NHS honors were lit by the residing members of the senior class. Steven Mallow lit and read the speech of Knowledge, Cassandra Hutchens lit Scholarship, Tanya Protsinko lit the Service candle, BreAnna Newman lit Leadership, and Maegan Bell lit the candle that represented Character.
With all the candles lit and explained, it was finally time for the inductees to sign their names into the NHS register. As each inductee signed their name and became an official member, they received a card of recognition and a jacket pin.
Finally as the new members repeated the pledge of the NHS organization, they became officially part of the NHS organization. At the end of the ceremony, many pictures were taken, and refreshments were provided.
NHS is proud to have their new members on board and is planning on having everyone participate this year in helping ring the Salvation Army bell for Christmas.
