On Tuesday, December 15th, the Bears played their home opener at Munford Gym against the Marshfield Blue Jays. The Bears wanted to get another win like last weeks and came out fired up.

The Bears had a good start grabbing the lead early. Then going into the half, the Blue Jays caught back up and had a lead by one. The game continued to be a very physical game and was back and forth in the second half. The Bears dropped back into a zone to stop the drives, but the Blue Jays’ height advantage in the post and ability to drive the ball to the rack continued to hurt the Bears. The Bears stayed in it neck and neck with some key shots, but the Blue Jays kept the lead. With time running out, the Bears had the ball and were down by three. Taylor James got the ball and drove into bank in the two. The Blue Jays wasted the rest of the clock, and the Bears lost by one. The Final Score was Bears-60, Blue Jays-61.

This was a disappointing loss for the Bears, but they hope to learn from it and get a win next time. Luckily the Bears night was not completely a lose for the junior varsity and freshman team won their games. This moves the junior varsity to a 4-1 record and the varsity to a 2-3 record.

“I thought our effort was good. We just have to do a better job of guarding people as they drive to the basket,” commented Coach Mallow.
