Sunscreen, a water bottle, lightweight sleep gear, along with endurance, strength, determination, and a raw taste of adventure.  These are a few of the many ingredients needed to join Mr. Dunlap on his great outdoor adventure.  Do you have what it takes to go on the hiking trip?  This is the very question many students are asking themselves while preparing for the big trip.

Mr. Dunlap, the hiking trip director, is informing every student considering the hiking trip ahead of time so they are sure to have everything it takes.

This year’s trip will be located in the Ouray, Colorado area.  Mr. Dunlap wants each participant to be prepared to be able to hike around the distance of three miles while packing a 30lb. to 40lb. backpack in high altitude.  There will be daily hikes.  According to Mr. Dunlap, the average range of the elevation could reach from 1500 feet to 3600 feet.  The highest summits will range from 12,000 to 14,000 feet in elevation.  Setting camp will be around 9,000 to 9,500 feet in elevation.

Mr. Dunlap wants every participant to furnish their own equipment.  Traveling will start at 5:30am on July 24 and the group will be returning around 12:00am on July 31.  On the way out, you will be staying at one motel as well as one motel on the way back home.  The rest of the time the group will be tent camping.  Mr. Dunlap is also planning to ride the Durango-Silverton Gauge Train.

“This is an all day open air train ride,” quoted Mr. Dunlap.

The price per person to join this hiking quest is $350.00.  That price includes transportation, food, train ticket, and lodging.  “The price of the trip is designed to allow any student to participate, so this will be a “no frills” trip,” stated Mr. Dunlap.  If you’re looking for a great summer vacation trip, joining Mr. Dunlap and many others on this outdoor adventure would be an ideal way to spend a portion of your summer!
