On Tuesday, February 2, the Bears played at home against a conference rival, the Thayer Bobcats. The Bears were looking for a record of 2-0 in the conference.

The Bears came out slow and trailed by three at the end of the first quarter. Then in the second, the Bears started firing on all cylinders and soon caught the lead. At the end of the first half, the Bears were up by seven with a score of Bears-26, Bobcats-19.

The Bears continued to shoot well and finally they were able to control the boards. With this, the Bears extended their lead to 14 by the end of the third quarter. This lead stayed level through the fourth quarter, and the Bears won by 14 with a final score of Bears- 64, Bobcats-50.

“It is always really important to win conference games,” stated Taylor James.

The main scorer for the Bears was Steven Mallow with 20 points. The main scorer for the Bobcats was Josh Huckabee with 16 points. The junior varsity also came out on top showing great poise with a 52-49 win. Both the varsity and junior varsity had amazing games shooting the ball. Both teams hope to continue to show dominance in the conference.

“Ava is also 2-0 in the conference and it is good to keep up with them”, commented Steven Mallow.
