On Friday January 15th, it was Hoop Queen at the Munford Gym, and the Bears would be facing off against the Liberty Eagles. The Bears came out fired up ready to take on a tough opponent.

In the first quarter, everything seemed to be going good for the Bears as they pulled out to a 23-11 lead. The Bears lead remained about the ,and at halftime, the score was Willow-41, Liberty- 32.

In the second half the Bears, with their outstanding shooting and good defense, never allowed the Eagles to make the game come within five. The Bears continued to play great right up to the end to put the Eagles out. The Bears won with a final score of Willow-74, Liberty-53.

The Bears’ scoring was amazing with a total of 13 three pointers and 11 twos as a team. The top scorer for the Bears was Taylor James with 19 points. The Bears had a great night against a big rival and played strong all four quarters. Also, the junior varsity Bears had a successful night winning with a final score of 51-38. These games move the varsity to a 5-5 record and the junior varsity to an 8-1 record. Both groups of Bears hope to continue this winning streak.

“I feel like we are doing a better job of competing and playing with a certain mental toughness,” stated Coach Mallow.
