Moving on Up
Nerves were tight as the choir and band students left the high school for district competition. The bus was filled with excitement as well as last minute practice as vocalists and musicians worked to perfect each note.
Overall the choir and band performed extremely well with several individuals from each moving onto the state level. From band, Crystal Blagg will go to state with a saxophone solo and Brandon Coursen with his piano solo. From the choir, Brandon Coursen will advance with a vocal solo as well as Jon Hamby and Meredith Pilcher. The girl’s ensemble consisting of BreAnna Newman, Chantel Lasley, Cassandra Hutchens, Brittany Crowder, Natasha Brower, Allie Grogan, and BreAnna Miller also received a 1 rating which enable them to move onto state.
“I’m glad it’s over!” exclaimed Choir director Larry Dame. Always extremely nervous before competition, Mr. Dame stayed true to nature and was a basket case throughout the competition. Even with this extreme case of nerves, Mr. Dame directed his choir with precision and pulled off an excellent performance.
Mr. Cochran, band director, also put his heart into directing his band and was rewarded with an outstanding performance.
Congratulations to the members of both band and choir. Good luck at state, hold your head high, and represent Willow Springs High through the beauty of your performance.
