Willow Springs School cares about the whole person, not just the academic growth of the students and staff. One way that shows is through the Health Advisory Committee.

“We have the Health Advisory Committee in which all teachers, parents, counselors, students, and community members can participate,” says Mrs. Anne Kyle, Willow Springs High School’s nurse. The committee developed a school wellness policy in 2006 which applies to all school lunches, breakfasts, and other meal programs. In the policy, there are a maximum number of calories, fat and sugar content a meal can contain.

Also, the selling of soft drinks has been banned because childhood obesity and diabetes has increased with children drinking soda.

The committee also stresses the staff’s wellness by promoting exercise and encouraging members of the staff to set weight loss goals for themselves. Healthy living is an important goal for staff and students here at Willow Springs School.
