Elementary Hosts Grandparents’ Day Luncheon
by Ms. Courtney Stuart, Elementary Computer Teacher
Mrs. Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade was the force behind the celebration of Grandparents Day. Mrs. McQuade has modestly referred to herself as “just a housewife,” but her unending work to establish and publicize the holiday marks her as a true community leader. Marian decided there should be three purposes for National Grandparents’ Day: to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance they can offer.
To honor this day, Willow Springs Elementary welcomed over 554 grandparents while hosting our annual Grandparents’ Day Luncheon.
On Tuesday our Kindergarten students greeted 90 grandparents, on Wednesday the first and second graders welcomed 210 grandparents, and on Thursday our third and fourth graders were excited to have 254 grandparents visit them.
Several classes shared an activity with their grandparents to recognize this special occasion. Thank you so much to the 554 grandparents who came and celebrated Grandparents’ Day with us.
