Walking through the halls at Willow Springs High School on Homecoming Friday is like swimming in a sea of maroon and white. Homecoming is a very hectic day to which students look forward. This year’s festivities provided excitement and fun for all. At 2 p.m. on Friday, September 17,  the Homecoming parade made its way through town.

Hannah Mooney and her little brothers share a “sweet” ride in the parade.

FFA, middle school and each high school class had floats representing them in the parade. The different high school classes competed in the traditional float competition, and the freshmen class came out on top.

Following the Homecoming parade was the pep rally. Students filled the gym with spirit and encouragement for the football team. Members from each class competed in games and the always popular spirit war. The seniors reigned champions in the spirit war as they did the majority of the week when it came to spirit points. The middle school was happy to be included in the pep rally as well.

Mr. Steve Dunlap commented, “This was the best pep rally yet!” Everyone was involved and made this Homecoming rally a definite success.

Later on that evening was the moment for which everyone had been waiting: the Homecoming coronation. As the gorgeous girls escorted by the Bears football players  made their way onto the field , they were ecstatic to be representing their class. The anticipation rose when all the girls had made their way onto the field and the Homecoming queen was soon to be announced.

“And your 2010 Homecoming queen is… Allisha Shanks!” As Allisha made her way to center field,  the excitement was written all over her face. She was crowned and bombarded by camera flashes. The court made their way off the field, and the Homecoming game began.

What a lovely Homecoming court!

Directly following the football game was the Homecoming dance. Around 150 people attended the dance, automatically making it a success. The dance was black light themed, and students loved it. Based on the turnout, Willow Springs High School will most definitely be having future dances.

While the game did not end the way students had hoped, the festivities surrounding Homecoming 2010 certainly provided many opportunities for fun.
