Thirty-six Medical Explorers traveled to Mtn. View, Tuesday, October 12, for their annual training.  Explorers learned about hospital rules and regulations, confidentiality issues, safety techniques, and emergency procedures.  In addition, students were fitted for scrubs and their pictures were taken for an identification badge. Medical Explorers wear a specific color of scrubs so that they are easily recognized by hospital staff.

After the training, Explorers are able to volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in any area of the hospital that interests them.  However, to volunteer in the Emergency Room or to ride in the ambulance, students must earn at least eight volunteer hours on the floor and must undergo some trauma training.

Monthly meetings are held at St. Francis Hospital, and each of the five participating schools elects a president and vice president.  Each meeting highlights a guest speaker from a different aspect of healthcare.

Medical Explorers is a division of the Boy Scouts of America.
