State FFA Officer Encourages Students to Pursue Excellence
“She was a lot of fun! It was a good workshop. She taught us about goal and priority setting that will help us not only in FFA but in life,” said Kyra Bunch when describing the visit of Tiffany Pemberton. A previous student of Mr. Sanders’ and the Area 13 State Vice President, Pemberton is part of the Richland, Missouri chapter of FFA.
During her visit she had the opportunity to conduct leadership, communication, and team building workshops for over forty kids. She taught the Leadership, Landscaping, and Agriculture Science I classes how to improve student leadership skills, supervise agriculture experience programs, and increase agricultural awareness within the state of Missouri.
The Future Farmers of America was created in 1928 in Kansas City. Missouri girls were later admitted into agriculture education classes in 1969. “Times have changed in FFA since I was in high school. Back in the mid-80’s only one or two girls in my very rural high school joined. Today, here in Willow Springs and around the state, girls are very involved,” said Mrs. Weatherford, high school teacher. Today females make up over 55% of Active FFA membership in the National FFA Organization.
