Third Graders Serve on Goldilocks Jury
by Mrs. Annette Chaney, Elementary Librarian
Willow Springs Elementary third graders recently traveled to West Plains to visit the Howell County Courthouse and the courtroom of Judge Truman Wiles as part of their Career Awareness Education. Judge Wiles spoke with them and answered questions about the career opportunities that were available to an attorney and about his position as Howell County Circuit Court Judge.
The students were then involved in a “mock trial” in which Goldilocks stood accused on charges of trespassing and property damage. Howell County Prosecutor Josh Corman and Defense Attorney Todd Thorn played key roles in the trial as well as talking with students later about their careers.
Twelve third grade students were chosen to be the jury, who listened to arguments for both defense and prosecution and ultimately handed down a verdict in the case. Testimony was heard from several witnesses, played by employees of the courthouse, as well as testimony from Pop A. Bear, played by Willow Springs Elementary Principal, Ken Myers. All of the third grade Willow Springs Bears learned a lot and enjoyed the afternoon.

Awww..
I didn’t get to do that kind of thing in third grade!!!!!!!!!!!!! No fair.
why don’t we get to do fun stuff????????????????????
You should make educational fun suggestions to your teachers that will help you learn the things they are trying to teach you. Most teachers love creative ideas like that!
