Elementary Students Welcome 632 Grandparents
Willow Springs Elementary hosted Grandparents’ Day Thursday, September 8th –Thursday, September 15th. Several grandparents and senior friends came to eat and visit with students. Kindergarten had 171 guests, first grade 100, second grade 115, third grade 115, and fourth grade 131.
Guests were greeted by teachers and staff and directed to classrooms. While in the classroom, students shared activities with their special guests. Fourth grade students performed a humorous dramatic script called, “Holdup At Ambush Canyon” for the grandparents. The students did an amazing job, and the play was thoroughly enjoyed by both the performers and the audience.
Some third graders performed a reader’s theater about heroes for their grandparents as well as acrostic poems. They also shared important memories with their grandparents and several made books for them telling what they were thankful for.
Second grade students read stories about grandparents and did a then-and-now activity with them. Some classes made cards, created timelines, made a family tree and a quilt puzzle with their grandparents.
First grade students colored a Grandparents Day coloring book with their grandparent and drew pictures of what they would look like as a grandparent. Several students tried to guess the ages of their grandparents.
Kindergarten students sang songs to celebrate the occasion and then read color songs out of their Color Song Book.
Afterwards, grandparents were escorted to the cafeteria to enjoy lunch with students. The cafeteria staff prepared five amazing meals throughout the week, and several support teachers volunteered to help assist guests.
Thank you so much to all of the grandparents and special friends who came to celebrate their special day with us.
