On Monday night, the Willow Springs Bears 7th grade team beat Ava in two games, and the 8th grade team lost to Ava in three games.

“The 7th grade volleyball team avenged  last week’s loss to Ava with a good old fashioned spanking.  We went to Ava last week and looked as bad as we could possibly look. It is amazing how well a team does if they keep serve and move to pass the ball,” explained Coach Valarie Jackson.

In game one, Maribel Garcia-Espana gave the Lady Bears a huge boost by scoring 13 earned points and 2 kills; Devin Perkins added 4 points to the 25-17 win.

In game two, the Lady Bears continued serving well. Katelyn Wood scored the first 4 points, Alana Biehl added 6 points, and Kirstien Loman finished Ava off with 7 earned points and 2 assists. Grace Bailey had 3 assists and a kill. The game ended with Willow Springs over Ava 25-7.

The 8th grade volleyball team lost in 3 games. In game one, Alyssa Tooley led the Lady Bears with 12 service points; Madison Bendon added 4 points to help beat Ava 25-16. In game two, Kendra Aldridge scored 5 points, Dayla Davis 4 points and Kassidy Alexander 5 points.

“We got a little more offense in game two, but we just didn’t have any sense of urgency. Willow Springs rallied back to tie the game at 12 all but couldn’t make a stand on receiving serves and on defense. Willow Springs had more unearned serves than earned serves in game three,” explained Coach Jackson. The final score was Willow Springs 21, 16 and Ava 25, 25.

Other stats for the last game: Kendra Aldridge 7 assists and a kill; Dayla Davis 2 assists and one kill; Shilo Letterman 7 kills; Kaitlyn Baker 3 kills and Alyssa Tooley 2 kills.

The next match is at home against West Plains today.
