PTO Provides Safe Fencing for Elementary
by J.J. Cox
The PTO has purchased new fencing for the elementary playground. The organization purchased the fence by raising money through the Fall Festival, as well as by selling items such as cookie dough and other foods. “The elementary teachers are so thankful for the fence,” said third grade teacher Mrs. Tressa Dunlap when she told The Educator about the completion of this project.
Mrs. Cassie Rutledge worked last year with the PTO to achieve these improvements. “The safety of the children on the playground is the main priority. Many parents, including myself, think it is great! I am so glad the parents and patrons pitched in with our fundraising efforts to make it possible,” she said.
Officer Glen Moore said, “It runs along the west edge of the elementary playground. It’s purpose is to help keep track of the kids. Even with all the help of all the teachers, it is hard to make sure no students wonder off in there or get lost.”
Mrs. Jennifer Douglas, the elementary principal, said, “Everyone loves the new fencing. The taller fencing around the basketball court keeps balls from going into the woods. We truly appreciate the PTO for having the new fence installed.”
According to Mrs. Rutledge, the fencing was purchased from West Plains Fence, Inc. and cost $7,690. The purchase included 530 feet of 6′ chain fence, one 5 foot walk gate, and 100 feet of 10′ chain fence.
