Wizard of Oz Performances a Success
by Jessica Smoot
With a cast of 107 people, The Wizard of Oz is easily named the most successful performance the Star Theatre has put on this year. Performances for The Wizard of Oz were on Friday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, Sunday, September 25, Friday, September 30, Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2.
Almost every performance was sold out, with standing room only. On Sunday, October 2, after the matinee at 2 p.m., the amount of people still pushing to see the play caused the cast and musicians to perform in an unplanned performance, and the Star Theatre was filled to standing-room only once more.
Director Rebecca Peterson used the original screen play from MGM, the musical production. She is a resident of Cabool, Missouri, and has been involved in directing musicals for many years. The cast practiced for eight weeks before production.
